1 to 2:15 p.m. – Session One: Russian Journalism Under Fire
Review of dangers facing journalism and journalists in Russia, with a focus on the 13 killed in Putin years.

2:30 to 3:45 p.m. – Session Two: A History of Struggle
Discussion of changes in media practices, media rights, media ownership, etc., over time.

4 to 5:15 p.m. – Session Three: Russian Media Today
Discussion of current media structure, ownership, etc., and how that relates to oppression, restriction, etc.

Focus on challenges of covering the Putin administration, politics and other in-play stories.

Moderator: Karen Dawisha, director, Havighurst Center for Russian and Post-Soviet Studies, professor, Political Science, Miami University.

10:30 -11:45 a.m. – Session Five: Cooling the Fire
Discussion of what’s being done at present to preserve and enhance press freedoms, how those efforts are being received and what’s in the near-term future for journalism and journalists in Russia.
