Department Requirements
The
program in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology
at Miami University qualifies students to work as a speech-language
pathologist and/or audiologist in a variety of settings. Certification
and licensure in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology require
the completion of a graduate degree in Speech-Language Pathology
and Audiology. A bachelor of science degree is obtained in both
of these fields with an undergraduate degree. The program in Speech-Language
Pathology and Audiology was designed to prepare students to meet
the requirements for licensure in Speech-Language Pathology and
Audiology in the State of Ohio and certification by the American
Speech/Language and Hearing Association. The program also prepares
students to meet requirements for licensure in the Ohio public school
systems. Miami's program is CAA accredited in both Speech-Language
Pathology and Audiology. In Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology
students are involved in observation of clinical activites during
the freshman and sophomore years. Direct clinical contact begins
during the junior year and continues through the graduate program.
These clinical experiences include on and off campus practicums
in urban, suburban and rural settings.
A
GPA requirement of 3.0 overall and 3.0 in the required 100 and 200
SPA courses: SPA 127, 216, 222, 223, and SPA 225 will be enforced
for enrollment in all 300 and 400 level courses.
Eligibility
for admission and continued study in SPA 300 and 400 level courses
requires a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and a 3.0 grade point
average in courses required for the major
