DNA Replication

If it were so simple in 1953 , why are we still trying to understand it?

Early in vitro Studies - Art Kornberg

Scientific Model is to find and isolate the enzyme activity of interest.

In vitro replication of DNA - Arthur Kornberg

dNTP + Primer + Template --> DNA + nPP's

Summary

In 1959,  Arthur Kornberg was awarded the Nobel Prize for enzymatic synthesis (replication) of DNA along with co-recipient Severo Ochoa for RNA synthesis.
Note this was three years before Watson, Crick, and Wilkins received the prize for the structure of DNA in 1962.

After everyone believes that Kornberg has isolated the DNA replication enzyme, John Cairns isolates a strain of E. coli that completely lacks Kornbergs' enzyme.

What does this do to your scientific theories?
