Routine for Angiosperm composite images INITIAL SCALING, IMAGE ENHANCEMENT, AND COMPOSITION 1. Load Bark image 2. Transform, DISPROPORTIONATE resize to 512 X 390. The original should be 512 X 480 indicating that it came from Image 1. If it is some other size it came from another source and does not need to be resized. 3. Crop or proportionate rescale Bark to ?BW? X 395 4. Close original image 5.Convert to 24 bit 6. Close 256 image 7. Autoenhance (Select Brightness and Contrast Options) 8. Display at 50% 9.Load Leaf image REPEAT 2 - 8 - cropping or proportionate rescaling Leaf to ?LW? X 395 10. Load Twig image REPEAT 2-8 - cropping or proportionate rescaling Twig to [?BW?+?LW?] X ?TH? 11. Load Flower image REPEAT 2-8 cropping or proportionate rescaling Flower to [900-(?BW?+?LW?)] X 395 12. Load Fruit image REPEAT 2-8 - cropping or proportionate rescaling Fruit to [900-?TW?] X ?FRH? NB. It's most efficient to arrange the reduced images along the edges of the window 13. Load 24btbgd.pcx (900 X 675) 14. Display at 50% 15.Drag & Drop images over background to compose the composite. Usefull operations might be: A. Rotate - but only at 90 degreee increments B. PROPORTIONATE rescaling Also think about the sequence that you will paste the images, keeping in mind that digital images don't blend.. 16. Once you're satisfied with the way things look, move the images slightly off past the borders of the background. PASTING 1. Click on Select Tool 2. Click on the image to be pasted 3. Click on Select All 4. Edit-Copy 5. Click on Background 6. Edit-Paste NB1. Pasted image appears in upper left hand corner. Hand means you can Drag and Drop it. No Hand with a left MB click stamps it into the background. Edit-Undo will remove a stamped image. NB2. Stamped images can also be moved by: a. Select Tool b. Drag and Drop an outline around part of image to be moved. c. Hand means you can Drag and Drop it. No Hand with a left MB click stamps it into the background d. Use Dropper Tool to pick up background color in FG(left MB) and BG (right MB).e. Use Paintroller Tool to fill in the white area left behind by the move operation. NB3. Portions of the stamped images can be trimmed by.: a. Use Dropper Tool to pick up background color in FG(left MB) and BG (right MB). b. Select Paint Box Tool with homogenous rectangle c. Drag and Drop a rectancle over the area of the image to be trimmed. d. When you release the left MB the outlined portion of the image will be replaced with the background color. COPYRIGHT AND TEXT OPERATIONS 1. Edit-Paste From xidimg\acprtdes.pcx Copyright appears in upper left hand corner. Hand means you can Drag and Drop it. No Hand with a left MB click stamps it into the background. Edit-Undo will remove a stamped image. 2. Use Dropper Tool to pick up green color from copyright 3. Use T Tool to write species name. Select 14 pt, Arial, Bold, Italics. Name appears in upper left hand corner. Hand means you can Drag and Drop it. No Hands with left MB click stamps it into the background. Edit-Undo will remove a stamped image. Text can be edited by pressing Space Bar. SAVING COMPOSITE IMAGES You need to have the following directory structure for this operation: MAIN DIRECTORY BIG24BIT BIG256 SMALL 1. Click on the 24 bit composite image 2. File-Save As-THEIMAGE.PCX in the BIG24BIT subdirectory 3. Convert to 256 4. File-Save As-THEIMAGE.PCX in the BIG256 subdirectory 5. Image Transform-PROPORTIONATE resize the image to 533 X 400 6. File-Save As-THEIMAGE.PCX in the SMALL subdirectory 7. You can admire your image as it will appear in the DES by Display-Show Screen
