Physics 111
Optional Lunar Eclipse Extra Credit Assignment
The Assignment:
For the eclipse in the early morning hours of Friday March 14, 2025, you may complete this assignment for extra credit - note, it's optional, not required.
I want you to create a "Scrapbook Page" of what you observed and experienced while watching the eclipse. This is a rain or shine assignment, so you can
complete it and get the extra credit even if all that we can see is clouds and/or rain. Here's what I want.
I want a one-sided page in pdf format, like shown below.
There should be a minimum of four photos. Two can come from the internet - in fact, I'm very interested
in photos during the eclipse from the Blue Ghost moon lander that will observe it from the Moon.
The remaining photos should be ones that you take yourself - especially get photos
of you and your friends who watched the eclipse with you.
The paragraph should be a brief note to your children and/or grandchildren giving your
account and reactions to the eclipse. You can pull this out when they are getting ready to watch
a lunar eclipse. You might also want to compare it to last spring's total solar eclipse.
The assignment is worth a maximum of 5 extra credit points added directly to
your course score. Note that the 5 points are not guaranteed, i.e. it will be graded.
Feel free to be as artistic as you want to in displaying your photos and to fully use your
literary skills in your descriptive paragraph.
But remember: your submission MUST be on only one side of one page!
To submit: please email me (alexansg@miamioh.edu) your Scrapbook Page - in pdf format - as an attachment by 5:00pm Monday 4/15/24. Use the subject heading "Eclipse Scrapbook Page."
Let me know if you have any questions.
Now, the very last thing. Here's where I'm planning to be for the eclipse,
near the sundial across Spring Street from Keger.
We're going to have at least one telescope and several pairs of binoculars for people to
look at the Moon during the partial and total phases.
Times for the Eclipse (EDT and rounded to nearest minute)
