Old business Motion to have OWSA pay for a banner with the new OWSA logo. Motion carried 5/2001. This still needs to be done. During this fall meeting we discussed the purpose of the banner, ideas for size and design, and what to include. We decided to make the banner approximately 2-1/2' to 3' high X 6' to 8' long in size. The banner will include the new OWSA logo on the left side with the words "Team Ohio" on the right in black text. The background of the banner will be white. The banner will be stored in a tube. The banner will be displayed at the Ohio State Championships, Mid-west Regionals, and Nationals. Randy Winfield will have the banner completed by the spring meeting. Members suggested that Randy contact Brian Mollet and Beth Pesek for printing advice. New business 2002 Tournament Schedule - We discussed the upcoming tournament schedule for the year 2002 (shown below). In addition to the following schedule shown below, there are a few notes: 1. Junior Development - One concern was the site for junior development. There are only a few sites capable of hosting this 3-event tournament. SunSite offered to host for trick and slalom on two lakes. SunSite does not have a jump to date. We are checking with a few other sites. The date is tentatively scheduled for June 22-23, but as of now the site is still unknown. Note: trophies are left over from last year if the 2002 host wishes to use them. 2. Ohio State Championships - We asked Jim McClure of Pleasant Shores, 2002 site for states, to include a blurb in the comments section regarding the requirement of OWSA membership to ski at states. This supports our organization. Teams must join OWSA prior to the tournament, and members cannot switch teams. We suggested that Jim raise the late fees to avoid last minute entries. We suggested that Jim ask skiers to indicate if they plan to ski in the slalom tournament on Friday when they send in entries. Jim plans to host the banquet at his church and asked our opinion if the banquet could be alcohol free. No one seemed to think that was a problem. 2002 OHIO TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE (tentative) Jun 15 Cajun Lake 2 Rd./3 event Mike Meek 740-698-6581 Jun 22 Stillwater 3 Rd. Cajun Lake New business (continued) Clinics OWSA intends to host a judge and safety clinic in the spring, most likely one weekend in March. The clinic will be held just north of Columbus at the intersection of I-71 and State Route 36 at a hotel. The clinic will be conducted by Larry Downes. The judge clinic will be held on one day and safety will be held on the following day. All OWSA members are invited to attend one or both clinics. More specific details will be available in late December or early January. This information will be posted on the OWSA web site (OhioWSA.org). There has also been talk of a drivers clinic. If you are interested, contact Randy Winfield. It takes a lot of effort and coordination to host a drivers clinic (i.e., 3 senior drivers, volunteer skiers, boats, and a site). A clinic will only be pursued if there is an interest. OWSA T-shirts OWSA T-shirts were created to represent our organization, primarily at regionals and nationals. The shirts display our new logo on the front and a cool design on the back. T-shirts and tank-tops are still available in a variety of sizes for $10.00 each, which is at our cost. They are white with red, blue, and black colors. An ad for the t-shirts will soon appear on the OWSA web site. Take quantity orders for your club or family, and send them to Randy Winfield. Make checks payable to OWSA. Buy a shirt and wear it with pride! Current sales report - we printer 125 tees and tanks that cost $1225, which includes design of logo and shirt. We sold 58 at state for $580. New OWSA Logo As you may be aware, OWSA incorporated a new logo this year. Please feel free to use this logo for trophies, letterhead, clothing, etc. If you would like the logo in digital format (jpeg, tiff, etc.) or camera ready art, contact Randy Winfield. He will be glad to send you what you need. Mid-West regional team Jim McClure suggested we contribute $300.00 to Mid-West regional team. Dick Coss made the motion and Dave Miller seconded. OWSA Web Site report given by Randy Winfield As you may be aware, we are working hard to provide better communication and information through the web site (OhioWSA.org). This site belongs to Larry Downes. He has graciously allowed us to post OWSA information. Randy Winfield thanked Larry Downes for all his hard work. The new postings and future plans for the web site are listed below. New Postings Constitution and Bylaws New OWSA officers information State Meeting Minutes Fall meeting announcement Ski Clubs and Lakes in Ohio Planned Membership promotion and application Tee shirt sale Clinics Membership Numerous OWSA members and officers have noticed various problems with the structure of the OWSA membership (i.e. collecting dues, supplying cards to members, etc.). This is in no way the fault of current or past membership directors. These problems were discussed at the fall meeting. To promote OWSA membership and improve upon the structure, we have decided the following... - In January of each year, the membership director will send a post card mailing to all existing members soliciting dues ($5 Individual, $10 Family, $30 Clubs) for the upcoming year. The post card will remind members that an OWSA membership/card is required to ski in many Ohio tournaments including Ohio State Championships. The post card will also list typical OWSA expenses for the collected dues, which always seems to be a question, to ensure all members that the money goes towards the growth and maintenance of the organization. All applications for membership and payment go directly to the treasurer. The treasurer will send the names to the Membership Director. The Membership Director will send each member a membership card and OWSA sticker. - In addition to the post card, the OWSA web site will have a "How to join OWSA" section to increase membership. The same information on the post card will be listed indicating, how to join, why, and how the dues are used. - All Ohio clubs hosting ski tournaments are encouraged to require an OWSA membership to ski in their tournaments. Simply, list in the "comments" section of the regional guide add that OWSA membership is required. - The OWSA Membership Director will send out OWSA membership kits in the spring of each year to all Ohio clubs. These kits will contain OWSA membership applications, membership cards, membership stickers, and OWSA feature sheets, which lists basic information about OWSA and OWSA expenses. A club representative will be responsible for signing new members on an on-going basis or during tournaments. The club representative will now be able to supply membership cards immediately upon payment. Supplying new members with their cards immediately, especially tournament skiing members, will allow them to have their cards for a tournament they may be going to the following week. - We discussed the printing of new membership cards. We feel something should be created on the computer capable of printing membership information from a data base list. - We would also like to consider for the future a membership list/directory updated weekly to be provided to clubs hosting tournaments. This would allow the registry personal to check for OWSA membership and possibly eliminate the need for membership cards. We could also supply this list on the web site. Good of Order Linda Coss discussed a news article regarding the Division of Watercraft. The letter discussed strategic planning for lakes in Ohio. Jim McClure made a motion to write a letter to the Division of Watercraft on behalf of the OWSA suggesting they do not band slalom courses on public lakes. The letter will mention what the OWSA is all about and how they help train new public lake ski clubs. Linda Coss seconded the motion. Motion to adjourn A motion was made to adjourn by Jeanette Sturgill and seconded by Debbie Daulton. |
