Text Transcript

(In this video Russell Auwae, Ecology Ph.D. candidate, talks about his dream of creating a research institute back in his home state of Hawaii.)

"So, after finishing up here at Miami, with a Ph.D. (hopefully), I'd like to go back home, back to Hawaii, and possibly teach at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, and hopefully attract other native Hawaiian students, such as myself, to come into science and teach them the same techniques that I've learned here.

"And I'd like to conduct some research back home and also possibly start my own research institute back on Oahu. With this research institute that I hope to start, I'd like to provide REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) for native Hawaiian students and other minorities and hopefully they can follow the same path."
