There are several scholarship opportunities available to pre-professional students in healthcare-related fields. Applications for the 2011-12 academic year are currently available.

Carman Bahr Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded annually to one or more undergraduate students majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, or zoology who demonstrate both academic merit and financial need. It is the express intention of the donor that preference be given to students who plan to attend medical school upon graduation.

David and Helen Bernie Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a College of Arts and Science major based on academic merit. First preference is given to students pursuing pre-medical studies.

Dr. Richard and Lorry Blath Healthcare Scholarship

This shall be awarded to one or more outstanding undergraduate students demonstrating academic merit and financial need entering their senior year who intend to enter medical school after graduation. In addition this student or students will be chosen based on their university, school, and community involvement.

Paul R. Gaylord Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student who is doing very well at Miami and plans to pursue a career in dentistry. The scholarship is for ~$1,000. If you are currently a sophomore or junior, have a major that is in the College of Arts and Science, have achieved an overall GPA and science GPA of 3.20 or higher, and have been involved in campus and community activities; then you are strongly encouraged to apply.

Earl and Helen Johnson Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to students from Adams County planning to enter a medically-related profession.

Edward Kezur Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an upper-class (sophomore, junior, or senior) pre-med student majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, or zoology. Awards are made on the basis of academic merit.

Jason John Madachy Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to one or more undergraduate students who demonstrate academic merit. Preference shall be given to students who are members of a Greek social organization and have expressed a desire to attend medical school. Recipients must have attained at least junior status.

Dr. Asa C. Messenger Memorial Loan Fund

This fund was established by Mr. Conrad Leslie in honor of Dr. A.C. Messenger. Interest-free loans of up to $2,500 are available to undergraduates preparing for a career as a physician. Loan recipients must be in good standing and enrolled for a minimum of 12 hours each semester. Loans require the recommendation and approval of the Director of the Mallory-Wilson Center. Loan repayment begins one year after graduating from medical school or one year after leaving Miami University if the student does not pursue postgraduate study. The entire loan shall be repaid within ten years after the initial payment is due.

Parke and Dorothy Smith Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded annually to one or more undergraduate students who meet the following criteria: (1) have completed one full academic year at Miami; (2) have a declared major of biochemistry, chemistry, zoology, or microbiology; (3) have an overall minimum GPA of 3.0 as reflected on their Miami University transcript. First preference shall be given to students from the southwestern Ohio area.

Bryan D. Wood Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior pursuing pre-medical studies. Recipients must maintain a 3.7 minimum cumulative GPA to be eligible. Preference is given to applicants who meet these qualifications and who are graduates of Mountain Lakes High School (Mountain Lakes, NJ) or Keystone High School (Keystone Heights, FL) or are members of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
