Polio

caused by the Poliovirus

Polio enters the human system by the fecal oral route. This means that the polio virus is carried in infected stools and enters the non infected person by being consumed in sewage or other water mediums. Polio can lead to infantile paralysis or paralysis of one or limbs or in extreme cases death. Befor the 1950's there was no effective treatment, however Albert Sabin and Joanas Salk, developed two different vaccines. Epidemics still occur in under developed countries but the world health organization has lead a campaign to eradicate polio.
