Former Astronaut Joe Allen to Speak at Miami

To aid the United States in retaining its world leadership in science and technology, more than 100 astronauts have united to provide college scholarships for the very best and brightest students pursuing science, technology, engineering or math degrees. Each year, the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation awards twenty-eight $10,000 scholarships to deserving students nationwide. This year, senior Miami Honors student, Prashant Rajan, was awarded one of these scholarships for his extensive research in multiple disciplines.

To acknowledge Prashant for his significant accomplishments and present him with his award, former space shuttle astronaut Joe Allen will be giving a free public lecture at Miami University on Tuesday, September 4 at 7pm in Hall Auditorium. Dr. Allen holds an MS and PhD in physics from Yale University and an undergraduate degree in mathematics and physics from DePauw University. He flew on two space shuttle missions and served on the backup crew of the Apollo 15. He is the author of Entering Space: An Astronaut's Odyssey, a personal account of the space flight experience, and he has published widely in the fields of physics and space research.

This lecture is free and open to the public. We encourage the entire campus community to attend. This is a chance to hear about Dr. Allen’s fascinating experience as part of the NASA space program and to support fellow Miamian Prashant Rajan.
