Honors Application Process
We accept applications from both first-year and sophomore transfer students. To be considered for admission to the University Honors Program complete the Miami University Application for Admission. The Honors Application consists of a single essay on the Miami Supplement to the Common Application. Students who do not complete the honors essay as part of their Common Application, or who are beyond sophomore standing, will not be considered for honors admission.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. In most cases students should expect to receive their Honors admission decision within one week of receiving their admission decision from Miami University. Transfer applications are accepted up to 12 months prior to the date of attending classes.
Honors Transfer Credit
Because transfer students enter with past college experience, their honors requirements are pro-rated based upon the time they have left until graduation. When they arrive on campus they will meet with an honors adviser to discuss how their previous in-class and out-of-class experiences will fit into our Honors Program requirements
Frequently Asked Questions
Can apply to the honors program as a junior or senior?
No. Once a student has progressed passed their sophomore year, it become unrealistic to complete the honors program requirements by graduation.
How do I apply to the Honors Program as a transfer student?
All transfer students interested in gaining admission to the University Honors Program must complete the honors essay on the Miami University Supplement to the Common Application. Students must submit this essay when they apply to Miami University in order to be considered for admission to the University Honors Program.
What criteria do you use when reviewing applications?

How will I be notified of my Honors Program application decision?
You will receive a decision on your Honors application at or around the same time you receive your decision notification from Miami University’s Office of Admission.
What are the minimum criteria I need to be considered for Honors admission?
We review ALL applicants to the Honors Program regardless of gpa. These factors do carry some weight in the review process, but there is no minimum score or number students must meet in order to be considered.
Do students receive scholarships for being in the Honors Program?
No. At this time there are is no guaranteed scholarship tied to a students standing in the Honors Program.
If I don't apply for the Honors Program will I still be considered for scholarships at Miami?
Yes. To be considered for all Miami scholarships you simply need to complete the Miami University Application for Admission.
