Students at Miami University may pursue an interest in Russia and Russian in a variety of ways. The Department of German, Russian & East Asian Languages (GREAL) now offers a major in Russian, East European & Eurasian Studies. Students may choose from one of two tracks within the major: History and Politics or Language, Literature & Culture. International Studies offers a major with an emphasis on Russia or Eastern Europe (third-year Russian required). and European Area Studies offers a minor with an emphasis on Russia or Eastern Europe (third-year level Russian required). There are also two Miami Plan thematic sequences devoted to Russia and the Soviet Union and Russian culture, respectively. The former is interdepartmental, drawing on courses from GREAL, History and Political Science, while the latter consists exclusively on courses offered by GREAL.
