Welcome to the Karl E. Limper Geology Museum website. The Limper Geology Museum, located in Shideler Hall, at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, is home to approximately thirty displays of quality geological specimens intended to help students and visitors better understand and appreciate basic geological concepts. The Limper Museum contains hundreds of specimens of the world-famous fossils of Southwestern Ohio as well as minerals, rocks, fossils, and meteorites from all over the world.

Mission

Our mission statement provides insight into our dedication to helping others learn about the science of geology and promoting stewardship of the natural geologic environment.

If you are a Miami University student, the main purpose of this website is to give you an idea of what you can find at the Museum and how you can use it as a resource to clarify and enhance your studies.

If you are a Miami University visitor, the main purpose of this website is to inform you about the geology of planet Earth and the exciting geological changes that have taken place over the centuries in the local Oxford area. You can see examples of minerals, fossils, rock formations, and other artifacts that are the outcome these geological changes at the museum and at local sites.
