The Graduate Program in Ecology
at Miami University
As one part of the application process, you will need to select a home department. We encourage each applicant to focus on potential advisors whose research interests match the applicant's interests. Upon selecting a potential advisor, the applicant could then select the home department of that advisor.
Application materials and a graduate school bulletin can be obtained by writing to the Ecology Graduate Coordinator in your selected home department. (Application forms for foreign students are provided by the Office of International Education.)
A formal application must include the following:
- a completed application form
- two official copies of transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate work
- verbal and quantitative scores on the Graduate Record Exam (Test of English as a Foreign language (TOEFL) scores are also required for applicants from most foreign countries)
- three letters of recommendation, and
- a letter outlining professional goals and probable area of research interest
Please send all materials to the selected home department.
We will begin admissions considerations on February 1. Applications received after this date will be considered; however, offers of financial assistance are very limited, and chances of admission based on applications received after this date are diminished.
To expedite review of your application do the following:
Send ALL materials listed above (items 1-5) to the Ecology Graduate Coordinator in the home department that you select. For additional application procedures, please follow the instructions provided by that home department. In addition to arranging for official transcripts and GRE scores to be sent to us, please provide unofficial copies of these items in the package of information you send to the department. Once an application is complete, the department will recommend admission or denial. If the department recommends that you be admitted, you will be notified of our decision.
