Sample Preparation

Preparation of high-quality DNA and protein samples is a critical part of most biotechnology applications. The CBFG maintains a variety of instruments to aid in sample preparation.

Centrifuges

Assorted centrifuges are available with a wide range of rotors. A plate rotor is available for centrifugation of 96 well plates.

PCR Machines

Various PCR machines are available for amplifying DNA templates and for performing sequencing and fragment analysis reactions.

Alpha Innotech Imaging Systems

Several Alpha Innotech imagers are available for analysis of DNA and RNA samples after agarose gel electrophoresis.

Biomek® FX Laboratory Automation Workstation

For automated, high-throughput sample preparation a Biomek FX robotic system external linkis available. The CBFG staff provides training and consultation for robotic sample preparations with this system.

Promega Maxwell® 16 System

For very easy, medium-throughput sample preparation a Promega Maxwell 16 System external linkis available. This system is ideal for purification of genomic DNA or RNA.

Thermo Scientific NanoDrop™ Spectrophotometers and Fluorospectrometers

NanoDrop spectrophotometers and fluorometers external linkare available for quantitative analysis of purified DNA and RNA samples with minimal sample loss. A spectrophotometric/fluorometric plate reader is also available for quantitative analysis of larger numbers of samples.

Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer

Purity of DNA and RNA samples can be analyzed on our Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer external link.
